The Folk Arts Center and Mostly Waltz for Boston present Sunday afternoon sessions of live music for waltzing and other couple dances. This series duplicates the Mostly Waltz afternoons held in other cities across North America. Mostly Waltz for Boston also presents occasional special workshops in styles such as cross-step waltz.
The regular Sunday dances in this series feature a lesson in waltz basics, figures, or styles from 2 to 3 pm, followed by live music for dancing until 5:30 pm, with intermediate-level "cool moves" or other dance variations taught during the break, 4:10 to 4:30 pm. A variety of waltz tunes and tempos are played during the session; every third number is a different couple dance, such as a polka, hambo, schottische, swing, tango, one-step, blues, or zwiefacher.
Your donations to the refreshment table are much appreciated. To protect the hall's wooden floor and to make turning easier, please change from street shoes to clean shoes, ideally leather-soled, before dancing. For the comfort and well-being of all our dancers, especially those with allergies or asthma, please do not wear perfume or fragranced personal products at our dances. Thank you!
