This online Saturday afternoon event will be a pre-programmed dance party with live music by Balkan Fields; dances will be led by Boston area dancers
About the Band
Balkan Fields is an East Coast dance band with members from New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts: Melinda Fields (band leader, accordion), Dean Brown (tambura, guitar), Melika Fitzhugh (electric bass), Henry Goldberg (tupan, darbuka, riq, vocals), Melinda Hunt (vocals), and Ralph Iverson (violin, gadulka, sax).
Balkan Fields performs pan-Balkan music that is fresh and exciting. Along with well-loved standards, the group also includes arrangements and original compositions by group members, Bulgarian pop tunes, accordion/violin duos written by Ivan Milev, and some “off-the-beaten-track” Balkan tunes that work really well for dances most Balkan dancers know already.
