Online Fundraising Auction

November 2022

The FAC Gala Committee will be hosting another online fundraising auction in November. But this auction is different from our previous auctions because we will use MaxSold, an online auction company that specializes in downsizing, estate sales, and house clean-outs. Using MaxSold allows us to reach bidders outside our community such as collectors, antique dealers, and resellers who frequent other MaxSold auctions.

MaxSold is currently offering their services free of charge to non-profits, so all the money we make will go directly to FAC. The best way to understand a MaxSold auction is to visit their website and poke around.

Donations Needed

Soon we’ll be asking local FAC members to donate gently-used, vintage, new, and interesting items for the auction. This is the ideal time to dig out those "treasures" that you haven’t known what to do with and give them a new life. Donations are to be dropped off at the FAC office or an alternate site in Newton at designated times in early November and will be auctioned off to support FAC, so please start setting items aside. (You will find donation guidelines at the end of this message.)

Volunteers Needed

We seek volunteers to help with the physical preparation for the auction, which involves writing descriptions and photographing the objects and entering them into the online Auction Catalog. Also, if you have particular expertise in valuing art, jewelry, or another category of collectibles, please let us know. Please email with any questions or suggestions you have.

Guidelines for Donations

Because MaxSold reaches a wider audience, we are not focusing on “folkie” items, as we have in the past.

Donations we are looking for:

  • Smaller furniture such as side tables and benches, especially Mid-Century Modern (MCM), mirrors, small rugs
  • New or used tools
  • Classic cameras (e.g., 35mm, Polaroid, Leica)
  • Vinyl records, CDs, and DVDs
  • Costume jewelry and watches
  • Vintage and collectable items of any era, especially collections of them
  • Vintage or high-end toys and dolls (e.g., American Girl doll)
  • Comic books
  • Special dishes, glasses, and serveware, e.g., depression glass
  • Home décor like framed prints, lamps, and mirrors
  • Sports memorabilia, sports trading cards
  • New electronics like Roomba or iPads, or classic electronics like speakers and turntables

Donations we cannot accept:

  • Large furniture, couches, hutches, treadmills
  • Holiday items (except vintage Christmas and Hanukkah)
  • Books (except sets of vintage/old books)
  • Video cassettes
  • Outdoor furniture, yard or garden items, bicycles
  • Personal services, classes, or experiences
  • Homemade food items
