Phil’s Favorite Folk Dances

FAC’s Friday dance series presented an evening of dancing in memory of Phil Bainbridge with music by Sladka (Dean Brown, Colin Ferguson, Heather Lee, and David Skidmore, plus John Chambers) and by Matt Fichtenbaum, on June 9, 2017 at Park Avenue Congregational Church, Arlington, MA. Many thanks to everyone who came and celebrated Phil’s life with us.

Visitors’ Day and “Missed the Boat” at Boston Harbor Scottish Fiddle School

Visitors enjoyed a round-trip ferry ride, a world-class Scottish fiddle concert, dance and music sessions, and a cookout with cash bar on Thompson Island on Tuesday, August 15, 2017.

Tour of Czech Republic with Jan Pumpr and Marcie Van Cleave

FAC and Dvorana Travel of Prague presented a tour in Czech Republic featuring the country’s culture, history, and scenic attractions in October 2017. Stay tuned for news about our next tour in April 2019.

Boston Waltz Weekend with Ari Levitt

FAC and Mostly Waltz for Boston presented three workshops in waltz fusion with special guest teacher Ari Levitt, plus a guided dance practice deejayed by Ari and a Mostly Waltz dance party with live music, 10 am-11 pm on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at FUSN, West Newton, MA and 10 am–noon on Sunday, October 15 at Masonic Hall, Cambridge, MA, plus an optional group dinner and swing dancing, 6 pm–midnight on Friday, October 13 near Alewife Station, Cambridge, MA.

Bulgarian dance party with Kabilé

FAC presents Bulgarian dancing for all with music by the Kabilé traditional wedding band from Thrace, 8-11 pm on November 18, 2017 at Payson Park Church, 365 Belmont Street, Belmont, MA.

Bulgarian Night at the Friday dance

FAC and Divi Zheni present Bulgarian dancing for all with music by Divi Zheni and Zornitsa, directed by Tatiana Sarbinska, 8-11 pm on December 1, 2017 at Park Avenue Congregational Church, Arlington, MA.

Balkan Music Night

FAC presents an annual feast of Balkan music and dance, Saturday, March 17, 2018, 7 pm–1 am at 51 Walden Performing Arts Center, Concord, MA.

FAC presents a variety of workshops, celebrations, themed Friday dances, and other special occasions throughout the year, in addition to our regular weekly, monthly, and annual events. Stay tuned for details!

School and community programs

FAC offers school-based folk dance and music programs and residencies that promote acceptance and appreciation of diverse cultures. These programs are designed to complement many aspects of a school’s curriculum and can be tailored to reflect the ethnic composition of local populations. FAC dance leaders are also involved in community outreach projects with adult education programs, senior citizens, Girl Scouts, Campfire Boys and Girls, and special needs groups.
