Thursday Night Folk Dancing

8pm • July 11 • Arlington, MA

Come dance with us at our first post-Pinewoods Thursday Night Folk Dancing, featuring Jeanne Clifford as programmer. See our full schedule for July and August below.

With deep appreciation for the wonderful experience we had at Pinewoods, we will be reviewing two dances, Ozrensko Kolo and Hrasničanka, that we learned from Efie Derksen. Jeanne will also review Tokyo Polka, which was taught by Richard Powers. And if you heard Julia Poirier sing it at Pinewoods…you know that you want to hear that again!

SUMMER 2024 Calendar

New in the Little Shop of Horas

Soundtrack from the film "My Borrowed Heritage"

After a fabulous North American premiere last month, we are so pleased to offer the music that Hans Derksen composed to enhance this wonderful film.

In Hans' own words:

This is the CD in which we put the music tracks of the Film My Borrowed Heritage. There are even some tunes I composed but did not made it into the documentary. Besides that, we have some field recordings from singing and playing of people who appear in the movie.

When I was in charge to do the recordings when we were shooting the film in Bosnia and Serbia, I just was waiting some time and suddenly I got inspired by the whole environment, hearing some kind of the music already in my head. So I asked Efie, might it be a good idea when I would compose and make the music for the film?

And then when I viewed the footage, all the melodies just came to me and ended in a beautiful result.

I made it with all my heart and I hope you will enjoy listening to it.

--Hans Derksen
