Dancing on the Greenway starts next week!

Starting July 11, our long-running outdoor dance series returns to Boston with a new venue: Dewey Square, on Boston's Rose Kennedy Greenway. In honor of this new venue, we are calling this year's series “Dancing on the Greenway.” You can visit the event page for the full schedule.

Formerly known as “Folk Dancing by the Fountain,” this series has been running for over 50 years! This summer we will explore many different regions of the world, with dancing from Cape Breton and the UK to the Middle East and North Africa (and so much more!). Each event will feature experienced dance leaders offering basic instruction, accessible to all levels of dance experience, accompanied by wonderful music (live and occasionally recorded).

The Folk Arts Center is proud to produce this free, outdoor, multi-genre, participatory dance series. with the help of your generous donations. If you’d like to donate to support “Dancing on the Greenway” and other free and low-cost programming produced by the Folk Arts Center, you will find a Donation Button on the Greenway page.

We invite you and all of your friends and family to come dance with us on the Greenway. See you there!

From the Executive Director

It was the best of times, it was the best of times (sorry, Charlie!).

But that's definitely how Mr. Dickens would have begun A Tale of Two Cities, had he ever had the great fortune to attend an FAC international dance and music session at Pinewoods.

This year the weather, the campers, the musicians, and the teachers were all nothing short of rambunctious! High spirits abounded and no weather condition could rain on the parades of the Weekend and FolkDays!

Sonia and Cristian - outrageously superb! Jacob - exuberantly energetic! The Pinewoods Band and The Flying Squirrel Orchestra - exquisite! The afterparties - whimsical! The campers - happy!

The Pinewoods crew and our 200 campers and staff - for eight days we were united in a passion for reveling in traditions, creating new ones, and nurturing a community that will end up sustaining us through the rest of the year.

FAC's June Pinewoods sessions - now just a jumble of fond memories, but, ahhhh, such memories. Thank you all for everything each and every one of you contributed to make this montage of memories so sweet.
