Memorial Dance for Cal Howard

Many thanks to everyone who joined us for a special event celebrating the life of musician and dancer Cal Howard. Throughout the afternoon there was a variety of participatory dancing and music provided by our community’s musicians, teachers, and callers.

Cal’s family suggests that donations in his memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association MA Chapter (309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452), to the Folk Arts Center of New England (10 Franklin Street, Stoneham, MA 02180), or to any organization of your choice that promotes folk music and dance.

The afternoon’s program featured:
• English country dancing with leaders Christine Robb and Rich Jackson, and music by Mary Lea, Barbara Pixton, and Vince O’Donnell
• Scottish country dancing with leader Howard Lasnik, and music by The White Cockade and friends (Sylvia Miskoe, Ralph Jones, Allan Chertok, Vince O’Donnell, David Arnold, and others)
• International dancing with music by the Cambridge Folk Orchestra (David Skidmore, John Chambers, Dean Brown, Aubrey Jaffer, Jonathan Finger, Carol Kycia, Jack Martin, Ralph Iverson, Patrick Yacono, Colin Ferguson, and Heather Lee)
• New England contras and squares with callers Dudley Laufman and Tod Whittemore, and music by Donna Hébert, Robin Kynoch, Dave Titus, Debby Knight, and others
• An open jam session at the end, 5–6 pm
